Heiner Müller , born on January 9th 1929, is a Dramaturge, director of Théâtre, anarchistic poet and East-German, died of a Cancer of the throat the December 30th 1995 at the 66 years age.
Hamlet-machine of Müller opens on the famous end of the European culture: “I was Hamlet. I was held on the shore and I spoke with the undertow BLAH, in the back the ruins of the Europe”.
The theater of Müller mainly consists of rewritings of old myths. The playwright establishes what it calls a " dialog with the morts". Sophocle, Euripide, Shakespeare ( Hamlet machine ) or Laclos ( Quartett ) is successively called upon.
Questioned on what constitutes for him the true post-modern theater, Müller answers on the ton of derision: “The only post-modernistic one that I know is August Stram which was modernistic and worked in a post office”.
In its book Germania , Müller defends that Capitalisme and Socialisme showed two different manners to control the production (economic) and to ensure the discipline of work; and that since the “end of the ideologies” in Occident, people started to call in question the validity of the ideological conflict which opposes capitalism and socialism.
