Heide Simonis
Heide Simonis is a political woman German (SPD), born the July 4th 1943 with Bonn. It was Minister-president E of the Land of the Schleswig-Holstein of the May 19th 1993 until the April 27th 2005 (since March 17th, 2005 provisonellement).
Simonis was appointed Bundestag December 14th 1976 until the June 8th 1988, elected in 1976 and 1980 directly in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde electoral constituency, and in 1983 and 1987 on the list proportional of the Schleswig-Holstein. May 5th 1992 until the April 27th 2005 it was appointed Landtag of the Schleswig-Holstein, elected directly in the electoral constituency of Kiel-Is.
It was Minister for Finance of the Schleswig-Holstein to the governments of Björn Engholm (May 31st, 1988 - May 3rd, 1993), since March 10th, 1993 at the same time vice minister-president. After the withdrawal of Björn Engholm, she was elected minister-president on May 19th, 1993 and was re-elected on May 22nd, 1996 and on March 28th, 2000. She was the first and only woman in position of head of government in Germany.
Heide Simonis lost the regional elections of the February 20th 2005 against its preserving competitor Peter Harry Carstensen. Nevertheless, it formed a minority government of SPD and Verts tolerated by SSW, the party of the Danish minority. Because of the abstention from an unknown deputy to the four turns from election from the minister-president to the Landtag the March 17th 2005 it does not succeed in to be re-elected. She declared her withdrawal of the policy activates the same day. The April 27th 2005, Landtag elected Peter Harry Carstensen minister-president of a government of CDU and SPD. As from January, she will exert the function of president of German UNICEF.
