Heelflip

A heelflip is a trick of Skateboard. Its name comes from the word English “heel”, which means “heel”.

Principle

At the time of this figure, the board carries out a rotation of 360° around an axis longitudonal, thanks to an impulse of the front foot, given by the heel in the direction of the toes. To carry out a heelflip, the skator starts with popper , i.e. it makes rebound the back of his board (the tail ) on the ground. Its front foot slips then along the board, with the manner of a Ollie. However, instead of to scrape the grip in straight line, the foot leaves suddenly ahead, giving to the board its movement of gimlet. At the time of this last impulse, the last part of the front foot to leave the board is the heel, from where the name of the figure. Simple means of facilitating this last stage are to start with the toes of the foot concerned exceeding edge of the board slightly. However, let us note that if this technique is used, one tends to make turn the board less quickly.

The heelflip is extremely similar to the Varial flip, from which it is derived, if it is only rotation is done in the other direction.

The heelflip is extremely similar to the Kickflip, from which it is derived, if it is only rotation is done in the other direction.

The most obvious alternatives of the heelflip are the nollie heelflip , the heelflip switch and the fakie heelflip , which are each time the same figure, but carried out starting from other starting positions (see the paragraph “Positions” of the article “Tricks”).

NB: There exists a legendary competition between the heelflip and the kickflip. Indeed, some say that the kickflip is easier to learn like 1st flip while others, affirm that it is the heelflip… In the language popular one classes these people in 2 categories:

- Kickers (partisans of the kickflip);

- Heelers (partisans of the heelflip).
