Hedgehog (river)

The Hérisson is small a Rivière Massif of the Jura, in France.

It takes its source on the commune of It Lime-of-Dombief the (department of the the Jura) starting from the infiltrations of the plates Jurassic limestones before running out on the plate of Frasnois with 800 meters of altitude.

Cascades of the Hedgehog

The small river joined then the lower valley while jumping nearly 300 meters of uneven on 3 km by constituting the cascades of the Hedgehog which are among most remarkable of the Jura, particularly impressive at the time of the snow melt or when they are cold at the time them great colds which the area can know.

Various View-point S and a path of a little sporting walk makes it possible to follow the successive falls like:

  • the Jump Girard of a score of meters (access since the locality of the Cheese dairy),
  • the Jump of the Mill Jeunet (35 m),
  • the Jump of the Forging mill ,
  • the Jump of the Castle Garnier ,
  • the Blue Gour
  • the Great Jump , 60 meters and the cave Lacuzon, before admiring the last fall,
  • the Range of more than 65 meters.

The small river then peacefully crosses the lake of the Valley then the Lake Chambly located on the commune of Menétrux-in-Joux before joining the Ain on the commune of Doucier.

A house of the cascades was created at the bottom of the valley of the Hedgehog by the general advice of the Jura to present to the visitors the geological and hydrographic characteristics of the site, very attended at the beautiful season. Access since Doucier (8 km) and large carpark, alas paying, for cars, bus and camp-site.
