1. A Charmille is an alley (possibly covered) or strong a Haie cut consisted of Charme S. 2. The word indicates also a seedling of small charms.

The hedges - with the direction number 1 - have often the characteristic not to be dismantled in Hiver, thanks to the character marcescent foliage of the charm.

From the point of view of agriculture and ecology, an interesting property of the hedge is to attract whole colonies of titmouses which débarassent the cultures of their parasitic insects.

One of the most interesting hedges of Europe is on the commune of Theux, in Belgium. Created in 1885 and classified today, it consists of 4.700 seedlings curved in true a 573 meters long vegetable tunnel.
