Hector de Saint-Denys Garneau
Hector de Saint-Denys Garneau (Montreal, 1912 - Holy-Catherine-of-the-Jacques-Cartier, 1943) painter and writer Québécois.
Biography
Born in Montreal, resulting from an easy family, Garneau grows in a cultivated medium - he is the great-grandson of François-Xavier Garneau. He will pass part of his childhood to the manor of his family to Holy-Catherine-of-the-Jacques-Cartier in company of his cousin Anne Hébert.He is established in Montreal with his parents in 1923. The same year, he undertakes his traditional studies, which he will continue in various institutions montréalaises (Collège Sainte-Marie, Collège Loyola and Collège Jean-with-Brébeuf) while following courses of painting to the College of the fine arts; health issues will however oblige it to stop its studies in 1934.
In 1934, it founds the review " Relève" with Robert Charbonneau, Robert Élie and Paul Beaulieu. It published one collection of poems: Glances and plays in the space , in 1937, which represents a turning of the Québécois Littérature, which then limited to a pale imitation of the French Littérature.
He will die besides in his native village, located at the north of the town of Quebec, at the 31 years age in enigmatic circumstances, following cardiac problems.
