It comes in the world in Normandy in the small village from Thorigny, around Saint-Lo, within a cultivated and linked family. His/her father, Jacques de Callières, is governor of Cherbourg, a city located on the coast Norman. His/her mother, Madeleine Pothier, are the girl of the lord of Courcy, being close to Coutances. At the time of the birth of Callières, Montreal is a small missionary establishment then confined almost exclusively with the point where Paul Chomedey de Maisonneuve built in 1642, using about fifty people, the fort City-Marie, i.e. the first establishment montréalais. It is besides on this point that the sior Callière made build his residence in 1688 when he was governor of Montreal. Since, the point was known under the name of point with callière and the museum of archeology and history which is there since 1992 bears the name of Point-with-Callière even if one of the two rivers forming the point from now on is disappeared.
The knight of Callières was initially captain of the vessels of the king and in charge of several forwardings which had much success. In 1690, it carried out a convoy of: 6000 men with the help of Quebec besieged by the English and the Iroquois. He became thereafter the third governor of Montreal.
Following the death of the governor Frontenac in 1698, it was Louis-Hector de Callière who became governor of News-France whereas he was still governor of Montreal. It is besides under the governorship of Callière that was negotiated, in 1701, the Grande peace of Montreal which put an end to nearly one century of hostility between Iroquois and the French of News-France. The Callière governor will die two years later.
