Heavy Metal is a Roleplay created by Croc and Mathias Twardowski in 1991, published by Siroz.

Topic

The play proceeds on Earth in 2040. The world is separate into two: the Northern, rich block and thrives, and the Southern, poor and polluted block. The citizens of the Northern block live in a carefree woman company of the televisual spectacle, pay their purchases in points gifts. They are protected from the rebels and the inhabitants of the Southern block by the cybernetic units of repression (URC), a robotized police force.

The player can incarnate a robot member of the cybernetic units of repression (URC), or “stray” (human rebel).

Let us note that the authors are fans of heavy metal, the name of the play is undoubtedly not a chance…

History

In the years 1970, an young man of the name of Hodgson escapes a puritan family and leaves food in a community hippie. After a short life of happiness, he sees his friends maltreated by the police force, itself returned in boarding school, the burned farm… He develops of it a dislike of the humanity which pushes it to want to reorganize it.

Consequently, Hodgson seeks with infantiliser the men to bring back them to the state of nature. Become robotics engineer, it creates androïdes that it places at the orders of the countries. Thanks to them, it starts by dividing planet between egoistic rich countries and countries low in deliquescence. Then it abrutit rich person of television, become only real social force, and the poor of religion and pollution. Lastly, in 2036, it dissolves the human police force (a part reforce the borders of the Northern Block) and replaces them by the URC.

In the long term, he wants to obtain the collapse of any human civilization to replace it by the Garden: a Utopia ecologist where the robots will keep the men on a level compatible with nature.

Chemin making, Hodgson died. But it is not serious: it was made replace by a surpuissant computer and perfectly devoted to its cause.

The players must include/understand what is woven and try to change the world. As much to say that it is impossible: ten million URC, rebellious hundreds of factions and billion human constitutes a too large inertia. But this uselessness belongs to black and wild humor play.

Rules

The system of play is traditional years 1980, with features on 10 and of the jets of percentage.

The Stray ones are the human normal ones. There is however a large variety according to their reason to be opposed to the company: that goes from deviating sexual to the téléhooligans which want to seize the power to impose only one television program on the place of all the others, generally one of most stupid… It is fortunately of more reasonable like the Humanistic ones and the Communists, which brings closer the play to Paranoïa of West End Games. To play a group of stray is a exercise of style and it is often the need for keeping their material resources (represented in detail in the rules) and for surviving which will keep them together.

They progress in a traditional way, by experiment.

The URC they, are the true heroes of the play. There are the artificial ones and organics (equipped with an human brain whose memory was unobtrusive). One distinguishes in each category the models Screwdriver ( screwdriver , animals of basic combat), Glitter ( spangles , specialized in the relations with the human ones) and Nightcrawler (approximately night prowler , spies and infiltrateurs).

Each one has a characteristic SPAC, probabilistic system of analysis of the behavior , which starts to 0 for the artificelles ones and 10% for the organics. This characteristic is with double edge: the more it goes up, the more the robot becomes psychologist, but made at 100%, the robot decides to become human, pète leads and becomes renegade! To avoid that, of the revisions are regularly forced, but the more the SPAC goes up and the more the robot is due to its new personality…

They progress while gaining peripherals. A URC named beginner " Schmilblick 1.0" will become " schmilblick 1.1" with its peripheral first. For each peripheral gained, the URC is likely new to change version, passing for example from 1.5 to 2.0, 2.3 to 3.0, etc the legend speaks about a URC version 34.6!
