Heathrow Express train

Heathrow Express is a service of Train S serving the airport of Heathrow starting from the Gare of Paddington in the center of London exploited by the company Heathrow Express Operating Authority . It is a subsidiary company with 100% of the airline company British Airways whose Heathrow is the principal platform. This line does not belong to the integrated system National Rail although it shares ways with other trains and that its terminus is in one of the principal stations terminus of London.

The service, open the June 23rd 1998, functions roughly of 5:00 of the morning at midnight, at a rate of a train all the fifteen minutes. There are two stops with Heathrow, terminals 1,2,3 (at 15 minutes of Paddington approximately) and with terminal 4 (22 minutes).

The trains are made of electric oars Classe 332 built by Siemens. They offer many technical projections of which screens vidéos, especially used to diffuse advertisements, and the possibility of using the mobile phones all along the way, even in the parts in tunnel.

This service was generally received, in particular thanks to measurements taken to limit the impact of the line on the environment. For example, the turns of ventilation were disguised in barns.

He however was criticized, mainly for the transport costs. In 2007, a simple way costs 14 £ in standard class and 23 £ in First class. Let us leave similar airports in the United Kingdom or in the rest of Europe are appreciably less expensive. A way between the center of Birmingham and the International airport of Birmingham costs 2,60 £ while the way on the Piccadilly Line of the Métro of London between the center of London and the airport of Heathrow costs less than 4 £.

  • the line Piccadilly of the Métro of London connects the center of London to Heathrow. A simple ticket costs 3,80 £. In the event of purchase with the Oyster Card, the tariff is of 2 £ before 6:30 of the morning, after 19:00 and all the weekend, and 3,5 £ the remainder of time. Approximate duration of the course: 45 to 60 minutes.
  • Taxi, borrowing the M4 highway. Average costs: 40-60 £; run time from 30 to 90 minutes according to the destination.
  • Coach, of National Express train. Average costs: 6 £; run time of 60-75 minutes.
  • Drunk, of London Tubes. Although no bus of London Buses goes directly in the center of London in the course of the day, the bus of night N9 (0. 30 - 5:30) directly connects Trafalgar Square from the station of the buses of Heathrow. Cost: 1,20 £; 65 minutes run time.
  • the service Heathrow Connect serves the local stations between London Paddington and Hayes & Harlington then terminals 1,2 and 3 of the airport. Free transfer to Terminal 4 by Heathrow Express train. The tickets are not easily available for a way of Paddington to Heathrow (one needs from 25 to 30 minutes) as if British Airways preferred that the passengers use initially the expensive one but fast Heathrow Express. To 6 £ for a course of 5 km, this service between Beam & Harlington and Heathrow is however more expensive with the traversed kilometer than the Express train.
