The Bulgaria is a République of the parliamentary type since 1991.

The President of the Republic, Head of the State, is elected for five years by the universal direct suffrage. It orders the armed forces, proposes the nomination of the Prime Minister at the Parliament and promulgates the laws on which it has a partial Right to veto (if the deputies approve one second time the text, he must be promulgated). He is assisted in his functions by a Vice-president elected on the same “ticket” as him.

The Prime Minister chairs the the Council of Ministers and directs the Gouvernement of which it names the members. As in any parliamentary mode, it is the Government which has the whole of the executive power. It must have the confidence of the Parliament.

The Parlement (National Assembly) is elected for four years by the vote for all, direct, equal and secret. The poll is regional and is done according to the rule of proportional with a minimum threshold of 4% of the voices to be represented. He votes the law, ratifies the international treaties, declares the war and controls the Government.

Results of the legislative elections

At the time of the elections of the June 25th 2005, the Coalition for Bulgaria, formed around the Bulgarian Socialist party of Serguei Stanichev arrived at the head of the votes in front of the National movement Siméon II of the Prime Minister Siméon of Saxony-Cobourg-Gotha, the Mouvement of the rights and freedoms (MRF) of the Turkish minority and the party of extreme right-hand side Ataka ( Attaque! ). There were 22 national lists of candidates, more of the lists presenting itself but in certain districts. The list Euroroma, a party gypsy, did not obtain any seat in spite of the very mediatized candidatures of various personalities (singers, ex-playmate become actress porn etc).
