It belongs to the old province of Hainaut whose capital was Mons. This commune is located on the secondary road D951 of Avesnes-on-Helpe at Trélon, with 8 kilometers in the south-east of Avesnes-on-Helpe, in the middle of what one calls Fagne. The altitude of Sains of North is of 240 meters and is announced on the atlases like the highest point of the close relations surroundings. Sains of North is a small village of the North of France. It is bordered by the following villages: Ramousies, Liessies, Glageon, Féron, Rainsars and Sémeries.

History

The history of Healthy-of-North is old, since the village existed already under the Romans. It was frequently found there objects dating from the Roman Period.

Thus in 1843, one found, with the locality “Ridges Windmill” a cellar similar to the old undergrounds nerviens. Among engraved which filled it were pieces of Roman bricks, remains of Amphore S, a Roman Pièce. One discovered no trace of staircase there, the four walls were vertical. Perhaps was this a dungeon whose opening was in the vault?

In the center of the village (in the garden), one also found a Dolium (vase) preserved perfectly which one can see besides with the museum of Avesnes-on-Helpe. It is a Vase of approximately a meter in height, which could contain a hundred liters of seeds or provisions. It is probable that Sains North was on the road, uniting the camp of Marquenoise on the Oise at another strengthened point which could be a camp of César to Avesnelles or with Flaumont-Waudrechies.

To the XIIe century, Sains of North passes under the patronage of the Abbaye of Liessies and remains ecclesiastical benefit until the Révolution. In 1265, a bubble of the Pape Clément IV allots the “Justice and the Employers” of the church of Healthy-of-North to the abbey of Liessies. It seems that Sains North then formed part of the décanat of Avesnes-on-Helpe and of the archidiaconat of Valencians under the name of Saimps or Senis with for owner holy Remy. According to Mr Mossay, the name the Healthy ones would mean “Reliques”.

One loses the trace of the history of Healthy-of-North until the 16th century, date of construction of the current church (1557). Its style is a Gothic mixture of and Renaissance. It contains a very beautiful cross coming from part of glory, and a confessional of the 18th century, coming from Récollets from Avesnes-on-Helpe.

The church had a Cloche carried and broken by the Germans during the First World War. This bell carried the following inscription:

ANNE IE KNOWN NAMES BY SR IRONMASTER MARTIN POLCHET TO the BRIDGE OF HEALTHY MR. NICOLAS RICHER PASTEUR OF THE AFORESAID PLACE MAKES the YEAR 1661

Although the Bridge the Healthy ones is located on the territory of Féron, it is not less very closely related to the history of Healthy-of-North. The presence of the Forest S, in particular that of the “Fagne the Healthy ones” explains the activity of the forging mills which a long time provided iron bars and cast-iron plates of chimneys. Philippe de Lalis, ironmaster in Glageon, obtained in 1581 the authorization to establish a workshop with the Bridge of Healthy, realizing various royalties including one of 24 books for the water current: the workshop was on the territory of Féron and the water tanks on that the Healthy ones of North. Its strengthened housing, formerly surrounded by ditches filled with water, which is that remains still today.

Ruins of the abbey of Liessies, it makes withdraw four columns of Marbre of Rancid (Belgium) intended originally for the Chapelle of the Château of Versailles and in makes decorate the frontage of a Temple. One says that Talleyrand built it in its park in the honor of the Raison goddess, like proof of good citizenship. One reached it in Barque because the castle was separated by from it small a pond currently filled and transformed into pasture.

Moreover, Talleyrand succeeds in making modify the road alignment of Avesnes-on-Helpe in Chimay so that it passes in front of its castle.

After the death of Talleyrand (1838), the Bridge the Healthy ones and its wood are bequeathed to his/her niece, the Marquise of Castellane, whose family keeps the property until in 1918. At this point in time, to face needs for money, the marble columns of the small temple are sold in America and are replaced by square brick pillars.

After having been property of the Dubois-Waast families and De Peretti, the field of the Bridge the Healthy ones was bought in 1975 by the House of the children of Trélon which in made a Center of assistance by work.

Demography

The censuses carried out for two centuries have reflected rather significant shifts in population. Indeed, the beginning of the 19th century sees the population reaching a its first thousand of inhabitants. The demographic progression of the commune is, then, very rapid since in fifty years (1820-1870), the double population and in twenty other years (1870 - 1890), it again doubles to reach its apogee (4 235 inhabitants). It appears clearly that this progression coincides with the time when wool industry is most flourishing in Healthy-of-North.

With the two world wars and the economic crises of the Inter-war period, the level of the population decrease appreciably. It starts an increase at the time of the full economic prosperity of the Sixties, to arrive at the last census at 3222 inhabitants.
