Headlights of the island of Aix

The headlights of the island of Aix (Charente-Maritime) consist of two 25,30 meters high towers, instead of only one classically. The tower Is, in service since 1889, carries fire while the Western tower carries the screen of the red signal since 1906.

This Phare always functions, although it is not guarded any more: automated and controlled remotely since the locality of Pallice, he does not visit himself. Its white and red fire, of a 5 seconds frequency, is enlightened with a halogenous lamp of 500 Watts and its range is of 44 kilometers (24 miles nautical). Also called giants of the island.
