Headlight of Thatch
The headlight of Thatch , or fire of the Tower of Arundel , is located on the terrace of the tower of the old castle of Arundel at Thatch, district western of the Sand-with Olonne, in the Vendée.
It is drawn up along the channel of the Port of Sand-in Olonne.
History
- the first fire existed with the XIII° century under the name of headlight of Pierre with Masson or pharaillon of Thatch . This fire is mentioned in 1594 at the time of the catch of the city by the Protestants, but its lighting was very episodical.
- In 1794 the tower is sold like national good. The service of the headlights establishes a small building being used as lamp with the top of the old woman tower and installs there a fixed white fire with plant oil.
- In 1806, after its extinction under the Revolution, fire is relit with a lantern in Quintet using mineral oil.
- In 1835, the old woman tower is repurchased by the State.
- In 1855, it is entirely restored in its current form.
- In 1862, it is equipped with a new white fixed light with screenings (2+1)/12 S.
- In 1934, fire is electrified.
Current headlight
The headlight of Thatch is always in activity. It is a fire of alignment with the green light of the entry of the port.Old the Tour of Arundel is out of apparent stones. On its terrace draws up a small turret, surmounted of a white octagonal lantern.
Fire is automated since 1994. A siren of fog is installed on the point of the cupola.
