The Phare of Roscoff is a headlight with ground built downtown full of Roscoff, commune of the Finistere.

History

  • In 1880, white fixed light on a cast iron candelabrum and cants out of sheet, at the end of the northern mole.

  • In 1884, red directional fire on sheet hut, close to the shelter of the lifeboat.

As the height of fire is considered to be insufficient, it is envisaged to build a news higher tower as of 1914. But work is suspended because of the First World War and begin again only in 1934.

Current headlight

It was brought into service in 1934.

It is built to 430 m behind former fire.

It is a pyramidal square tower in apparent stone masonry (granite) on a square base in apparent stone masonry, beside a housing of guard.

Automated since 2002, it is guarded and worth visiting in summer.
