Headlight of Beauduc

The headlight of Beauduc , in the south-east of the the Camargue is insulated between the ponds and the sea, on the point of Beauduc.

It protects the Navire S against the sand and mud banks from the Large Rhone. The access to the headlight is not easy; lost in the middle of the wild Camargue, it is done by the sea dikes.

History

In 1865 a Amer out of frame is built. Following the shipwreck of the Marseilles vapor Pergame , on January 1st, 1898, a construction project of a headlight is diligenté to improve indication of the coasts camarguaises in order to avoid confusion between the Phare of Faraman more in the east, and the Phare of Planier in roads of Marseilles. On ministerial decision the plans of engineer Combarnous, elaborate in 1900, are approved and construction is finished as of 1902.

In 1950, a compressed-air aural signal is installed to announce the Pointe of Fine sand when the visibility is reduced. The signal will be abandoned in 1980. In 1975, a Aérogénérateur is brought into service for its principal energy; the emergency power supply is given by a photovoltaic solar generator.

Current headlight

The headlight of Beauduc remained in its architectural aspect first. It is an isolated tower, slightly conical extended to the lower part in masonry of apparent stones on base of stone of size. The residences of guarding placed at the rear are composed of 7 rooms, a stable, two stores, two kitchens and a large hall which separates the two apartments. The 26 m length dwelling is elevated of 1,60 m to the top it ground to be with more than 3 m to the top of the sea level.

Since July 2001, it is automated but the titular guard remains on the spot; he does not visit himself. Since 2004, its food comes from solar collectors
