Headlight of Bénodet

The Headlight of Bénodet or fire of the Pyramid is located out of left bank of the Odet on the commune of Bénodet.

The tower of the fire a 39 meters height, painted in white, constitutes the element upstream of two alignments:

  • one with the fire of San Marino/Combrit out of Right Bank,
  • the other with the fire of the Cock on left bank.

A house of guard is on the other side of the road.

History

In 1848, the first headlight of the pyramid is built. It is about a turret which is then 9 m high and occupies circular space being at the end of the first be leading to current fire.

In 1887, an improvement of the beaconing of entry in Odet with alignment is decided under the direction of the chief engineer Louis Plantier. The Phare of Combrit is built as well as the headlight of the Pyramid which is moved and raised in order to be used for two alignments at the same time. It is carried out in leucogranit Breton, rock easily façonnable

August 10th, 1944, the headlight is decapitated with middle height by the Germans. It will be rebuilt with identical and will be relit in 1950.
