The Heading-with-brac is a series of albums of Cartoon created by Gotlib in 1968 which had a very great success and remains a reference for the amateurs of the kind. It makes following the Dingodossiers whose Gotlib was the draftsman and Rene Goscinny, the scenario writer.

Style

Written in a very punished language, with abrupt changes of tone supplied with an “expressive” drawing, the “RAB” has the effect of being a disparate bunch of accounts: anachronistic second reading of the fairy tales, whimsical studies of the animal world, like the pig, the pelican or the zebra (generally with the assistance of the professor Burp), thought philosophical on the life, how to recognize a mutant with its way of folding a road map, without forgetting the adventures of the two perfect cretins Bougret and Charolles, missed police officers (whose investigations lead without suspension to the culpability of the same man each time, caricatures Goscinny) or the brilliance development imagined starting from the formula E pericoloso sporgersi (“It is dangerous to lean” the window) formerly visible in many trains circulating in France, beside the similar warning in French, German and English…

Today, the “frozen and sophisticated” humor of the RAB, which was worth formerly in Gotlib “an abundant mail of three letters”, did not take a wrinkle. Ex-fans of Pilot with the young generations, each one finds there varnish of culture necessary to survival in company.

Recently new a opus of this saga artistic left, it acts of the Heading-with-brac Gallery , where Gotlib revisits with its manner philosopher's stone pictorial of our era (the David of Michel-Angel, Birth of Venus of Cabanel, the Mona Lisa of Léonard de Vinci, the Sacring of Napoleon of David, the Self-portrait of Van Gogh) while making use of its ladybird like guide and its humor like base for this album, it should be recognized, very original. The humor of Gotlib, which is expressed in the shape of drawings and parodies of tables is supplied with a documented comment of original works, written by Guillaume Marie-Angel.

Recurring characters

In the middle of this complete disorder, at least five recurring heroes, Isaac Newton, the ladybird, the professor Burp, the police chief Bougret and his faithful Charolles assistant intervene on any subject.

Isaac Newton has a good raison d'être there: having received an apple on the head, he deduced the law from it from the gravitation, which makes of him an inexhaustible source of hilarity. He then receives quantity of objects on the head which always make him discover its theory: a button, a Petit-suisse, a Kangaroo, a Tree, a Pelican…

The ladybird, initially introduced in a sporadic way and a rather summary graphics, is embellished with the wire of the appearances and ends up installing its presence, while delivering its opinion on all, like a tiny ancient chorus, and speaking regularly about its broccolis.

The professor Burp regularly makes talks, with the intentions honourable, but very little scientific on the animals and the animal life.

Finally let us speak about a series of boards which makes its appearance in the third volume, the police officers Bougret and Charolles, driving of the absurder investigations the ones than the others, with each time two suspects: Aristidès Othon Frederic Wilfrid, caricatures Fred, another draftsman of cartoons, and Blondeau Georges Jacques Babylas, caricatures Goscinny, this last being always to be the culprit. Besides often, all the indices indicate inevitably Blondeau, but it is however by other as invisible evidence with the eyes of the reader as ridiculous, laughing and yet right that the Bougret inspector, plugs vis-a-vis the most obvious obviousnesses, will reveal the truth nevertheless. Many alternatives exist, mention Sherlock Bougrès all in Franglais (" request goes that to believe you, beut canes iou proves it? ") or the first investigation of our heroes, still with the preparatory Course. This series is in fact a caricature of the five last minutes , taking again even the sentence fetish " Good blood but it is of course! " .
