Hawser
A hawser or bull is a large rope, traditionally made of three made sections (what means: joined together helical ones around the others), employed for the mooring and the towing of Ship S.
The quality of a hawser is mainly its resistance, but other factors are also important: the elasticity, the weight, handiness. The synthetic hawsers in Polypropylène with eight bits are those usually used for large the Navire S, they float and are relatively handy and especially do not make hulls, they can be coiled on the right or on the left contrary to the 3 bits. Their elasticity can go up to 30%, which is to be considered. This last detail can be also an advantage: the distribution of the tensions on several hawsers.
