Have-Sulaymaniya

The province of Have-Sulaymâniya is one of the 18 provinces of Iraq.

Before 1976 this area belonged to the province of Kirkûk.

Geography

The population is mainly of origin Kurdish, the province is attached to the autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan. In addition to Kurdish it includes/understands Arab minorities, turkmene and araméennes. more than 99% of the inhabitants are Moslem. There is a possible passage towards Iran.

The province passes to be one of sourest, to even be sourest of Iraq, it counts very little islamist. The local authorities are flattered of this result by saying that it is due to:

  • Of the leaders experienced in the fight against the islamist ones and the Left Baath
  • the effective intelligence services and the support of the population.
  • a population ethniquement homogeneous, this qu makes that a foreigner does not pass unperceived.

The province is a tourist destination for Iraqi in spring and the autumn. In summer the climate of mountain is bearable. The area is picturesque and before the Guerre of the Gulf one had considered the installation of a ski station.
