A theory affirms that the Suffixe - city translates the last establishment of Roman villas whereas the Préfixe hau- would come from the proper name Hadulfi (an owner of villa). It is the generally allowed assumption. Indeed, from the Roman ways passed formerly by Hauville and made it possible to serve villas.

Another theory claims that the name comes from the Gaulois hall which one can transcribe by hangar .

The Saint-Benevolent Parish church

It was given to the cathedral (Romance) of Chartres by Richard II the good, duke of Normandy (996-1026). Nave of XIIe century, transept and collateral southern of XVIe, then various rebuildings during the following centuries. Organ.

Hauville preserved its Confrérie of charity which appears among oldest of the area. According to the oral tradition, it founded in 1308 under the reign of Philippe Beautiful the and would have been placed under the Saint-Benevolent patronage of . The first official documents mentioning the brotherhood go back to 1410. The statutes of charity were renewed the November 10th 1619. In 1867, following a disagreement with the Cleaned of the time, hostile at charity, charity started to function civilly. The return to a religious operation was done only after the death of this last. It is canonically set up the April 5th 1881, a new payment is then set up. Since 2001, charity is a Association law 1901.

The Mill of Pierre de Hauville

It was built in 1258 by the monks of the royal abbey Saint-Pierre de Jumièges on a site called " court Abbée". There remained property of the abbey until the Révolution of 1789, year when he was declared quite national and was sold. This “stone mill” is a Windmill of the mill-turn type, well-known at the XVIIIe century by its series of Baux and accounts of repairs. As from the years 1860 its activity dies out and it falls little by little in ruin. In 1970, it remains nothing any more but its tower in regular base of Silex and Calcaire. It was classified historic building the February 13rd 1979. In 1984 and 1985, it is restored by the public corporation of the Regional natural park of Brotonne: its roof, its floors and its mechanism, including the wings, are reconstituted. The Moulin is today a museum and a workshop of flour-milling.

The Toiture in Chaume of the mill (which has the advantage of being light) is directional in order to put the aerofoil vis-a-vis the wind. The mill has two doors what is explained by the fact that one or the other can be condemned constantly, the wings falling to the ground. As for the Aerofoil, it is spread according to the force of the wind. The movement of the wings actuates the grinding stones by a play of Engrenage S. These Meule S, of approximately 2m broad and 15cm top, is used to crush the Blé. They can, according to the wind, to grind until 200kg corn per hour.

It is one of the mill-turns actuated by the wind among oldest of France, and the single windmill which is in a position to function in Normandy. In the past, Hauville counted at least seven mills (mills of Haule, Cauchure, Thiberville…).

A “house of the Miller” of style Normand was reconstituted near the mill in 1992. It shelters an exposure on the windmills in Normandy as well as the Minoterie.

A " road of corn to the pain" was created. It passes in particular by the mill of Hauville and the Baker's oven of $the Hague - to-Routot and aims at emphasizing these two monuments of the regional natural park.
