Hautrage

Hautrage is a section of the Belgian city of Saint-Ghislain, located in Walloon region in the Province of Hainaut.

It was a common to whole share before the fusion of the communes of 1977.

There exist two parts in Hautrage:

  • Hautrage-Center;
  • Hautrage State.

Etymology

History

The ground of Hautrage knew, on several occasions, of bloody battles. At the time of the Battle of Hautrage which saw to be opposed, the July 17th 1572, the French with the Spaniards on the field of the Lark, two thousand two hundred men remained on the spot.

In September 1914 and later during the war 1940 - 1945, not far from there, from the German and English soldiers fell in their turn.

Economy

The basement of Hautrage gave coal as of the 13th century, but also of sand and the plastic grounds for the refractory material production companies.
