Haut-Mâconnais
Portion of the Mâconnais located in the northern half of the triangle ranging between the towns of Mâcon, Cluny and Tournus.
Having Lugny for “capital”, this small country - whose economy rests above all on the Viticulture - is essentially made up of the communes belonging to the Canton of Lugny.
From the point of view of the relief, Haut-Mâconnais is characterized in the west by a long tilted longitudinal dry valley towards the south, with the covered marly ground of vines (Azé, Saint-Gengoux-with-Scissé, Bissy-la-Mâconnaise and Cruzille). Its center also corresponds to a compartmentalized zone whose exposure is, it, of most favorable to the culture of the vine, in particular in the sectors of Lugny and Viré. Is canton (Montbellet, Fleurville, Saint-Albain, the Room…) takes the shape of a terrace which, bordered by the the Saone, is the crossing point of several main roads of communication: trunk road, highway and railway line.
