Hauran
The Hauran is an area of the southernmost Syria, in the governorships of Quneitra, Es Suweidiya, and Dera, and has as a capital the town of Bosra.
Its modern name derives from its ancient name, the Auranitide (in Latin Auranitis , according to the town of Auran), and means cavernous area literally .
It is limited by the Mont Hermon (see the Golan) to north, and by the Jordan in the south.
Basaltic plate of volcanic origin, it is one of the most fertile areas of Syria, particularly famous for its vineyards. With the difference in the other fertile areas of Syria, such as the valleys of the Oronte or the Euphrate, Hauran does not have a river, and its hydrology rests on precipitations and of the sources.
Already mentioned in the Bible (Ézéchiel 47:16 - 18), she played the part, in Antiquity, of traditional border of Roman Syria.
Also called Djébel el-Druze (the mountain of the Druzes ), it shelters today part of the community Druze, community resulting from the Islam chi' ite, which was spread in the neighborhoods of the Hermon Mount, in the south-west of Syria (Hauran) and the south-east of the Lebanon (the Eastern Bekaa).
