Hattushili Ier
King hittite which reigned approximately of 1625-1600, according to the average chronology, about 1640-1615 according to the low chronology. It can be regarded as the founder of the old kingdom hittite.
Its origins are badly known. It is presented in the form of a son of Labarna, which is in fact the title of the king hittite, that Hattushili itself carried. He wants to be also the heir to the former kings of Kussar, but its bonds with them are not established, more especially as he chooses to reign as a king of the Hatti, from the town of Hattusha (from where its name which means " the man of Hattusha"), which before had been destroyed by Anitta of Kussar, which had prohibited with whoever to be again established there under penalty of incurring a serious curse, that whose Hattushili did obviously little case.
Hattushili is a very active sovereign on the military level. It fights initially in direction of the south-east of its kingdom, towards the Cilicie and the Syria. It fights the kingdom of the Yamkhad (Alep), and it destroys Lea town of Alalakh. After these first successes, Hattushili turns to the kingdom hourrite of Urshu, located at the north of Alep. Its following campaigns have as a framework very an other face, the west of Anatolia, where it fights against the Arzawa. Its end of reign is marked by fights inside the royal family. His/her son, his daughter and his nephew revolt against him, but it succeeds in remaining on its throne. He writes on this occasion his political Legacy , which commemorates its important facts. Its grandson Mursili Ier succeeds to him his death.
