Hattushili III

Hattousili or Hattushili or Hatusili is an emperor hittite having reigned of -1265 with -1238 (or -1264 with -1234 or -1275 with -1260). It is the third wire of Moursil {{II}}, brother of Muwatalli; one is unaware of what became the elder one, Halpasulupi; he is the uncle d' Urhi-Teshub/Moursil {{III}}.

Hattushili, which was priest of Ishtar, starts its political career under the reign of his/her brother which inherited the throne to dead of their father and for which it leaves to fight on all on the face of Anatolia of north, against frightening the Gasgas. Its brilliant campaigns ensure a great prestige at the court hittite to him. His/her brother concedes to him in prerogative the kingdom of Hakpissa, in the north of Hatti (all areas in the North of Hattousa).

When his/her brother dies, his/her Urhi-Teshub son succeeds to him and takes the name of reign of Moursil, in the honor of his grandfather, but it must face the strong influence of Hattushili, that it tries to draw aside. This last then carries out a palace revolution which gives him the capacity. It exiles its nephew under house arrest initially, before this last does not escape until taking refuge at the court of the Pharaon Ramsès {{II}}. One of the large craftsmen of the accession to the capacity of Hattushili is his wife Puduhepa (or Poudoukhepa or Poudouhepot), a hourrite former priestess originating in the town of Lawazantiya to the Kizzuwatna, which occupies a position raised during the long reign of her husband.

Once established, Hattushili brings back the court hittite in its old capital, Hattusha, which explains the name of reign that it takes, which means " the man of Hattusha". It must face the revolt of the town of Pishuru which it crushes. On the international plan, in order to consolidate a little more the relations with Egypt, a new peace treaty is signed in -1246 and Hattushili gives two of his/her daughters in marriage to Ramsès (of which Maâthornéferourê). This bringing together probably results from the threat that then made weigh the Assyrie on the kingdom hittite.

Hattushili then seeks to reconcile the emperor of Assyrie, Salmanazar {{Ier}} while letting to him conquer the Mitanni. Then it passes alliance with the king of Babylon Kadashman-Enlil {{II}} (-1280 with -1265). This does not prevent Hattushili from wiping a few years later a severe defeat vis-a-vis Salmanazar {{Ier}}. His death, his/her son Tudhaliya {{IV}} succeeds to him.
