Hattie McDaniel

Hattie McDaniel is an American actress , born the June 10th 1895 with Wichita, Kansas and dead the October 26th 1952 with Los Angeles. She is the girl of a father priest Baptist of Richmond (Virginia) and of a mother originating in Nashville (Tennessee). At 18 years, it begins a career of actress while singing in light comedies and while occurring with the radio. In 1932, it makes its beginnings with the cinema where one will primarily confine it with roles of servants. In 1936, Show Boat is worth to him to be first noticed once.

But it is in 1939, with its role of Mamma in Gone With The Wind , which it reaches the fame. It will then obtain the Oscar of the female Best supporting role, becoming the first black artist to obtain this reward.

It was the sister of the actors and singers Sam McDaniel (death in December 1962), Etta McDaniel (dead in December 1946) and Otis McDaniel. It was married four times.
