Hasting
Hasting , born towards 810 and died in 893, is a chief Viking, known for his many forwardings in the frank Empire, but also in the Mediterranean.
It was born in the area from Troyes, which would make of him a prisoner of the wars of Charlemagne against the Saxons. It joined then the Danish Vikings, and takes part under the direction of the chief Horic in the raids of 834 (August, pushed back) and 835 (August, pushed back, and September, victorious) against Noirmoutier.
He becomes independent chief then, and announces himself by annual forwardings of plundering, not hesitating to return where he underwent a failure.
- 843: it is combined to the count Lambert, count de Nantes and with Nominoé. They are beaten by the count Renaud of Nantes to Messac, but surprise it and with Bataille of Blain
- 845 kill it: raid on the the Loire and taken Ancenis, Angers, Saumur, Chinon, failure in front of Turns. It leaves a detachment in a camp, and leaves to seek reinforcements, which it obtains with the thig Orich: it returns in particular with Bjorn Coast-of-Iron
- 846: it installs a permanent base on the island of Noirmoutier. It confirms its alliance with the Breton ones and returns Nantes to Lambert
- 848: plundering of the Ile de Ré, Miss, Blaye, Holy, Angouleme
- 849: plundering of Périgueux, Fronsac, Holy-Foy, Agen, Montauban; failure in front of Tarbes; a group isolated from its Vikings is exterminated by peasants in open country
- 851: plundering of Blois and Orleans
- 852: plundering of Angers, Turns and the abbey Saint-Martin-of-Turns
- 854: catch and fire of Luçon. Hasting is besieged there by a Normand chief recruited by the count of Poitiers, but it negotiates with him and can escape. It is still beaten close to Poitiers by the son of Charles the Bald person, come forces of it
- 856: catch of Orleans on August 18th
- 857: systematic plundering of the Touraine and the Poitou with the alliance of Pip II of Aquitaine; Poitiers is held to ransom
- 858: long raid against the coasts of the Iberian peninsula: Corogne, Oporto, Lisbon (13 days of plundering), Seville, Cordoue, Cadiz, Algeciras, Malaga, Alméria, Aguilas, Nador in Africa and the Balearic Islands (Palma de Majorque). Wintering in the Camargue
- 859: plundering of Narbonne, Agde, Tarragone, Barcelona, Arles, Marseilles and of some Italian cities (of which Luna). Second wintering in the Camargue
- 860: at the time of the passage of the Straits of Gibraltar, an Arab fleet awaits the Vikings: at the time of the battle, several Drakkar S is cast. Arrival in Nantes in autumn
- 862: plundering of Clermont-Ferrand, Limoges, Toulouse
- 863: bag of Angouleme. October 4th, the count d' Angoulême Turpion is beaten and killed, forwardings until Limoges, Périgueux, Poitiers
- 864: increase of the Garonne
- 865: plundering of Orleans (February), the Abbey of Fleury, Poitiers. Attempt on Mans, but Hasting is beaten by the frank counts of the area
- 866: plundering of Mans: Hasting is caught up with by the Francs and is beaten with the Bataille of Brissarthe. But he manages to escape and Robert the Fort is killed
- 870: failure in front of Angers; encircled, it capitulates
- 872: catch of Angers, that it occupied. It is besieged by the army of Charles the Bald person. The Breton ones of Solomon of Brittany beat the Francs of Charles the Bald person, and force the Vikings of Hasting to capitulate by diverting the Maine river, who put the drakkars dry
- 879: Hasting is beaten by Carloman
- 882: Hasting agrees to become Count of Chartres
- 886: it takes part in a forwarding in Flanders
- 892: it sells the county of Chartres to equip a fleet with 80 ships and to leave to the attack England, but disappears the following year in the Manche.
