Haspelschiedt

Haspelschiedt is a common French, located in the department of the the Moselle and the area Lorraine. The Village belongs to the Regional natural park of the Vosges of North and of the basin of life of the Moselle-is.

Geography

Located at the North-East of the City of Bitche, in country covered, the Village and its large forest Ban is crossed by the Schwartzenbach , which feeds a long pond of more than two kilometers.

History

Archaeological testimonys important were counted on its territory: a prehistoric enclosure , the Schlossberg, a polishing machine and a Stele of Mercury put at the day before 1855 close to the forest house of the Hand of the Prince, whose name points out an episode of the Guerre between the duke of Lorraine Ferry III and the bishop of Metz Bouchard d' Avesnes, at the end of the 13th century. Mentonné in 1544 in a form very close to its current name, Haspelschid , old German Aspel-Cobs , the forest of tremble , the village belonged to the Mairie of Walschbronn at the 16th century.

During the Second world war, the inhabitants are evacuated on September 1st 1939 with Lignières-Sonneville, in Charente, and return in September 1940. The village is evacuated one second time the November 7th 1940 in the villages of Lezey, Bezange-the-Small, Ley, Ommeray and Juvelize, in the Canton of Vic-on-Pail, the village being integrated into the Military camp of Bitche. The village is released by the American troops the March 17th 1945 and is destroyed thereafter.

Worships

From the spiritual point of view, the Village becomes Paroisse of the archpriest of Bitche in 1802. In addition to the parish church, dedicated to holy Nicolas, there exist still two Chapelle S rebuilt after the Second world war: the Vault Saint-Sebastien, replacing a building of the 17th century and the Chapelle Saint-Wendelin, restored on the site of a building build in 1792.

Administration

From the administrative point of view, the village, belonging to the Canton of Bitche since 1790, is integrated into the Military camp of Bitche and is used as parade ground with the German Armée , which explains its destruction in March 1945, at the time with the Libération.

Demography

The Population, which increases between 1817 and 1852, passing from 578 to 750, decreases considerably since the beginning of the 20th century. Because of the extension of the Military camp of Bitche installed since 1900 on the round of applause of the common , of many inhabitants choose the emigration towards the the United States and, so the village counts nothing any more but 306 inhabitants with the Recensement of 1982.

The fasce, notched wall, symbolize the prehistoric Mur , principal curiosity of the village. The Couleur S are those of the dukes of Lorraine, which had the Seigneur IE by the county of Bitche.
