Hasparren
Hasparren is a common French, located in the department of the Yrénées-Atlantiques and the area Aquitaine.
Its Basque name is Hazparne , of old a *Ahaitz-barren (a) > *Ahaizparren (a) .
The name of inhabitant is Hazpandar .

The grounds of the commune are sprinkled by affluents of the Adour, the Ardanabia (and by tributaries of this one, Anguéluko erreka and the ur Handia) and the Joyeuse and by tributaries of this one, the Marmareko Erreka (and affluents of this one, the brook Hasquette, Eyhéracharko erreka and Entrikola Pourdia erreka) and the brook of Lartasso.

The toponym Hasparren appears in the forms Hesperenne (1247, cartulaire of Bayonne), Sanctus Johannes de Ahesparren , Hesparren and Haesparren (respectively 1255, and 1288 for the two last forms, chapter of Bayonne), Ahezparenne (1288, Gascon Roles), Esparren (1310, cartulaire of Bayonne), Aezparren , Hesperren , Hasparrem and Hesparrem (respectively 1348 for the first two forms and 1501 for the two last, chapter of Bayonne), Hasparn and Haspar (respectively 1686 and 1754, collations of the diocese of Bayonne).The toponym Elizaberri appears in the form Éliçaberria (1863, topographic dictionary Basque Béarn-Country).
The toponym Urcuray appears in the form Saint-Joseph d' Urcuraye (1662, collations of the diocese of Bayonne).
History
Hasparren enters the history with the famous plate dating from the formation of the Aquitania Novempopulana (i.e of Aquitaine of the nine people). The plate was discovered in 1660 and is dated from the beginning of IVe century. One can read on this stone sealed in the wall of the church:

It is indeed at that time that the reform of Dioclétien broke the administrative connection with Gaulle Gallic.
With the Middle Ages, Ahaizparrena, protected by its two castles from Zalduzahar (1125) and Zalduberri (1310) was a stage of the ways of Saint-Jacques-to-Compostelle.
In 1790, the canton of Hasparren included/understood the communes of Briscous, Hasparren and Urt, and depended on the district of Ustaritz XVI, XVII and XIXe centuries date.

Having failed to go up at the end of the season 2005-2006, the HAC obtained the right to evolve/move at the higher level at the time of season 2006/2007 and will thus play season 2007/2008 in Fédérale 3. ; Tennis shoe Hasparren Basket Club Zarean (HBC) is the only club of Basket of the canton. The senior team masculine plays more on the level secondary road (Departmental Excellence) and the female senior team in promotion excellence departmental.

- Francis James, born in 1868 with Tournay and deceased in 1938 in Hasparren, is a Poète French which passed the major part of its existence in (Béarn and Basque Country), sources of inspiration of its literature.
