Hasdrubal Barca , born in 245 and deceased in 207, is a Militaire Carthaginian. He is the second wire of Hamilcar Barca and the brother of Hannibal Barca and Magon Barca, members of the dynasty of the Barcides.
He takes part in the Second Punic War and orders Carthaginian troops in Spain in 218. He tests there initially reverses then, helped by Massinissa, king of the Numides, he beats both Scipion S, Publius Cornelius Scipio and his brother Gnaeus Cornelius Scipio Calvus, in 212. Spain could have fallen to the hands from the Carthaginians if a Roman Chevalier of the name of Lucius Marcius had not gained two victories against the Carthaginian camps of Hasdrubal, wire of Gisgon and Magon. The arrival of Scipion the African in 212 is followed of an inversion of situation to Spain. In 208, Scipion faces Hasdrubal with Baecula and overcomes it. That does not prevent however Hasdrubal from raising an army to join his/her Hannibal brother.
In spring 207, it comes to join this last in Italy with powerful reinforcements. After having passed the the Alps, it tries the seat of Plaisance but fails. Whereas it takes again the road towards the Bruttium where his/her brother is, it is stopped in its walk by the Roman Armée. Both Consul S Romans, Caius Claudius Nero and Marcus Livius Salinator, had made the junction of their two armies after Caius Claudius Nero had decided to leave its province with the continuation of Hannibal. This second consular army was to come surreptitiously to surprise Hasdrubal. This last discovers the trap and tries to flee with its army but it is caught up with close to the Métaure river in Ombrie. The battle which follows, the Bataille of Métaure, is an important Roman victory. According to Tite-Live, 56.000 Carthaginians were killed and among those Hasdrubal. The winners cut the head to him and threw it in front of the camp of Hannibal.
