Harz

The Harz is a mountainous solid mass of the North of the Germany. It is located at the south-east of the Lower Saxony, the west of the Saxony-Anhalt and the North-West of the Thuringe.

The culminating point of Harz is the Brocken (Saxony-Anhalt) with 1.142 meters of altitude. Until 1989 this top was a station of monitoring and important interception for the mode of the German Democratic republic. It is served today by an old tourist steam train. Brocken is the windiest top of the Germany with gusts approaching 200 km/h sometimes, like the 1/18/2007, where a value of 198 km/h was recorded. On the territory of Lower Saxony, the top highest of Harz is Wurmberg (971 meters).

This solid mass gave its name to a rare bovine race, the Harzer rotvieh and with the mountains hercyniennes of Europe, appeared at the same time (end of the primary era).
