Harvey Pekar

Harvey Pekar is an American scenario writer of Cartoon born the October 8th 1939 with Cleveland, in the Ohio where he still currently saw. It was made famous for the series American Splendor , largely autobiographical.

In 1995, its album Our Cancer Year obtained the Harvey Award of better original album.

The stories reported in American Splendor are daily miseries of a poor individual, working in a hospital. This series is primarily the fruit of its friendship with Robert Crumb which put some of its accounts in image. Other draftsmen also took part, bringing each one its own graphic style.

American Splendor was the subject of a film adaptation in which Harvey Pekar appears in its own role (“young” Harvey Pekar is played by Paul Giamatti).
