Harry Potter at the school of the wizards

Harry Potter at the school of the wizards ( Harry Potter and the Philosopher' S Stone ), written by J.K. Rowling and appeared with the editions Gallimard in 1998, is the first tome cheese of the series Harry Potter . It is particularly important since it is used as a basis introductory for the six other volumes. It enables us to discover the universe of Harry Potter, us to familiarize with the characters, the places, manners and all the vocabulary which another community implies. Even if this first volume seems not to raise intrigues or questions without answers it of it is nothing: learnedly tied up as of this volume, the mystery of Harry Potter settles and many key moments that it will be necessary to analyze throughout this series are already involved in this book without the reader realizing some.

It was translated, like the six other books of the series, by Jean-François Ménard. The illustration of the cover in its French edition is due to Jean-Claude Götting. It should be noted that the very first French edition of “ Harry Potter at the school of the wizards ” contains illustrations in heads of chapter drawn by Emily Walcker. These illustrations do not appear in the editions which followed. This first edition was shortened. Several paragraphs missed.

Titrate

The literal translation of the original title (British English) of the book is “ Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone ”; the French editor preferred “ Harry Potter at the school of the wizards ”. The title was also transformed in the adaptation into English of the the United States into Harry Potter and the Sorcerer' S Stone (Harry Potter and stone of the wizard).

Synopsis

After the tragic death of Lily and James Potter, Harry is collected by its aunt Pétunia (the sister of Lily) and her uncle Vernon. His/her uncle and his aunt, having a wild hatred towards the parents of Harry, maltreat it and let their Dudley son humiliate it. Harry then does not know anything about his/her parents. It was always said to him that they had died in an car accident.

The day of its 11 years, a giant, Rubeus Hagrid, comes to seek it to take it along to Poudlard, a school of sorcery, where it is awaited for the re-entry. Hagrid to him reveals that he is a wizard like his parents and that his/her parents were actually killed by one of largest the Mage S blacks of the world of sorcery, Voldemort (called " That-Of which-One--Must-Not-to pronounce-The-Nom" or " That-Of which-The-Name--Must-Not-being-Prononcé"). Voldemort sought to kill Harry, but this last survived, by keeping a scar in the shape of flash on the face. Harry discovers whereas he is a hero in the world of the wizards, because the fate that Voldemort launched to him to kill it is turned over against him and the reign of the black magus stopped, thanks to him. Harry, called the " survivant" , is adulated by the community of the wizards.

Harry between thus at the school of wizard, Poudlard, where Professor Dumbledore is director. Chapter 1: The survivor

Dursley lead a peaceful life to the 4, Privet Drive , when one day a mysterious character, certain Albus Dumbledore deposits Harry, which was fifteen months old, in front of their door. Pétunia Dursley has a sister. It was the mother of Harry. They hated both. Alas, the parents of Harry died because of a fate thrown by an alarming character which one should not pronounce the name.

Chapter 2: A pane disappears

Ten years later, at Dursley, Harry is maltreated by his/her uncle and his aunt. At the time of the birthday of Dudley, his/her cousin, Harry go with this one, his aunt and his uncle with the zoo. Chapter 4: The guard of the keys

Chapter 13: Nicolas Flamel

Thanks to Hermione, the three friends find who is Nicolas Flamel: " it is the only alchemist who succeeded in manufacturing the Philosopher's stone " , which with the property to transform any metal into pure gold and which produces the elixir of long life which makes immortal.
