Harry Potter and the Relics of Dead the ( Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows ) is the seventh and ultimate tome cheese of the saga Harry Potter, the world best-sellers of Joanne Kathleen Rowling. The english language version left on July 21st, 2007 to 00:01 and makes 607 pages. The French version makes exactly 810 pages in the Gallimard editions, translated by Jean-François Ménard, was published the October 26th 2007 at midnight and a minute.

Summary of the novel

The book opens by a meeting of Mangemorts in the house of Lucius Malefoy, to which assist Rogue as well as a civil servant of the ministry named Yaxley. The purpose of this meeting is to develop a plan to kill Harry Potter during its transfer towards a surer place, since the charm of protection from which it profits while living in his aunt and her uncle, the Dursley, will end with its 17 birthday. For this purpose, Voldemort claims the rod of Lucius Malefoy, because he noticed the strange phenomena which bind its own rod with that of Harry. It is also felt that Voldemort still did not forgive in Malefoy their failures and enjoys to humiliate them.

After Dursley were escorted in sure place by wizards, and that Dudley expressed its respect and its gratitude towards rather surprised Harry, several members of the Ordre of the Phoenix go to the 4 Privet Drive to take along Harry. The plan consists in giving to six members about the Phoenix (Mondingus Fletcher, Ron, Hermione, Fleur, Fred and George Weasley) the appearance of Harry thanks to a potion of Polynectar and making escort each one of them by a member more tested. All will have to lead their “Harry” in a different place where a Portoloin will enable them to go to the Burrow, the residence Weasley. Alas, the hour of the transfer being known of Voldemort thanks to information of Rogue, of the mangemorts attack the various groups as of their departure. However Kreattur forever successful to make it and informs Harry, Ron and Hermione that Mondingus Fletcher ended up stealing it. Fletcher, caught by Kreattur on the orders of Harry, states unwillingly that Dolores Ombrage confiscated the medallion to him. On the councils of Hermione, Harry is reconciled little by little with the elf by giving him the false medallion and by saying to him that it returned to him from right.

; The research of the Horcruxes

During their stay Grimmaurd Public garden, they learn that Voldemort installed a minister marionette and makes seek Harry like supposed assassin of Dumbledore. Rogue became Directeur of Poudlard and of Mangemorts became professors. They also receive Lupin, which proposes to join them. But Harry refuses in a violent way (it treats Lupin of coward) for a good reason: Lupin is married in Tonks recently, and they await a baby. In parallel, made Harry of many dreams where he notices that Voldemort seeks manufacturers of Rod (Ollivander, Gregorovitch) to find a solution against that of Harry.

The place where the genuine sword is remains completely unknown. They must thus hide again in the English forests. At this point in time Patronus in the shape of hind appears very close to their camping and guides Harry to the genuine sword of Godric Gryffondor, hidden in a cold lake of the forest. Harry plunges to recover it, but the medal of Serpentard, which it carries around the neck, behaves oddly with the approach of the sword and tries to strangle it. Ron arrives at the good moment to save Harry of the drowning, and leaves the sword water. Harry opens the medallion thanks to Fourchelang, and leaves in Ron the honor destroy it. But a voice emerges from Horcruxe: it makes use of the darkest fears of Ron to put it to the test. Despite everything, Ron finds the force to strike and destroy Horcruxe. Of return under the tent, Ron explains to Harry and Hermione why he wanted to return as of the second following his departure, but that he could not find them front, because of the magic spells of protection of which they are surrounded. He also discovers that Déluminateur is not useful that to extinguish the lights, but the way showed him to find them. ; The Relics of Dead the

Harry, Hermione and Ron arrive at the house of Mr. Lovegood, who teaches them that the symbol is that of the Relics of Death, three particularly powerful objects: a magic wand known as “Rod of Elder tree”, a stone known as “Pierre de Résurrection”, and a cape, the “Cape of Invisibility”. Harry becomes aware that the cape which it has and who comes to him from his father is one of the three relics.

According to the legend told in the book of Hermione, three brothers arrived at the edge of a river and revealed a bridge to cross it. In the middle of the bridge, they met Death itself. This one enrageait with the idea that these men can cross without perishing. Imagining a plan then machiavelic to make them die nevertheless, it offered a gift to each one. Oldest of the brothers, combative, asked a rod, if powerful that it could never lose. Then, Death took a branch of Elder tree and cut to him “the Elder Rod (The Elder Wand)”. The second brother, arrogant, wanted to humiliate Death even more, and asked for the capacity to him of bring back deaths to the life. Death took a stone close to the river, gave it to him, and affirmed that it was now in possession of Pierre de Résurrection. Young person, humble and crafty one, not making at all confidence with Death, asked him for an object which would enable him to move without being seen of it. Death offered its cape to him. The three brothers separated to live each one their life. Oldest caused many duels, praising itself that its capacity came to him from its unbeatable rod given by Death itself. One night, a jealous wizard sliced the throat in his sleep to him and stole the rod. The second lived alone at his place. It turned Pierre of Résurrection three times in its hands and revived the woman that it liked, deceased before the marriage. Unfortunately, it always belonged to the kingdom of dead and was only one heart in sorrow. Insane of pain, the second brother committed suicide to join it. Death then sought a long time the youngest brother, but without never finding it. This one, to the twilight of its life, bequeathed the cape of invisibility to his/her son, greeted Death like a friend, and finally accompanied it in its kingdom.

Xenophilius, after having told this history, betrays the three wizards by denouncing them with the ministry in the hope that his/her Luna daughter, taken as an hostage by Mangemorts, is released. Harry, Ron and Hermione manage nevertheless to escape Mangemorts thanks to the cape from invisibility. Harry thinks whereas they must gather the “Relics of dead” in order to demolishing Voldemort.

Later, whereas they camp again in wood, they manage to obtain news of the ministry and world of the wizards by a clandestine radio program, Potterveille . Its emissions are animated by Lee Jordan, Kingsley Shacklebolt, the Weasley twins and Remus Lupin. They learn that Ted Tonks died. The same day, Harry pronounces the name of Voldemort automatically. A group of Rafleurs, carried out by Greyback, appears suddenly around them and all the three catch them. Rafleurs carry out that they hold Harry Potter, from now on “Undesirable Number 1” whose capture is rewarded by the sum for 200.000 Galleons for gold. Rafleurs then take along the trio to the manor of Malefoy, the general headquarter of Mangemorts.

In the manor of Malefoy, Harry and Ron are imprisoned in a dungeon with other prisoners, whereas Hermione is tortured by Bellatrix Lestrange. Despaired, Harry launches a call to the help by using the mirror bequeathed by Sirius, in which he sees once again a blue glance that he thinks of being that of Albus Dumbledore. Dobby appears then and releases Dean Thomas, former student of Poudlard, a goblin of the name of Gripsec, Ollivander the manufacturer of rods who disappeared since more than one year, like Luna Lovegood. But the noise of its appearance alerts Mangemorts which is above the dungeons. They send Peter Pettigrow to check what occurs. Pettigrow hesitates to kill Harry, because it is indebted for him of its own survival. Punished because of its treason, Pettigrow is strangled by its magic hand, worked by Voldemort three years earlier in the cemetery.

Ron takes the magic wand of Peter and precipitates in top with Harry, where they fight Mangemorts until Dobby makes fall a gloss right beside Bellatrix. In chaos, Harry disarms Bellatrix, then Drago Malefoy, and seizes their rods. With Ron, it releases Hermione and all transplanent at Bill and Fleur in their house at the edge of the beach. Unfortunately, Bellatrix wounded Dobby mortally while launching its knife at the time to him when it left the Manor.

Harry offers a worthy burial to Dobby, then serious on a stone: “Here rests Dobby, elf free”. During weeks which follow, Harry, Ron and Hermione plot with Gripsec to penetrate by effraction in the safe deposit of the Lestrange family, at Gringotts. Indeed, during the interrogation at Malefoy, Harry noted the terror of Bellatrix to the sight of the sword of Gryffondor, which was supposed to be in its trunk. He thus thinks that Horcruxe is hidden in this last. Gripsec wants to help the three wizards well provided that to him is returned the sword of Gryffondor, created by the Goblins. Harry accepts, however it does not specify when it returns the sword. Bill, not knowing anything the plans that they prepare between them, informs nevertheless Harry on the way in which Gripsec could interpret a promise made by human.

Gripsec, Harry, Ron and Hermione manage to penetrate in the safe deposit of Lestrange whose contents underwent a fate which returns any object burning to that which touches it without authorization, and the fact of multiplying. Harry seizes nevertheless the cut of Helga Poufsouffle, that Voldemort transformed into Horcruxe, while passing the point of the sword of Gryffondor in one of the handles. But Gripsec betrays them and seizes the sword. Harry, Ron and Hermione succeed in leaving the room and escape from Gringotts on the back from the supposed blind dragon to keep the trunk of Lestrange.

Voldemort carries out whereas Harry and his/her friends are with the research of Horcruxes and that they try to destroy them. It thus leaves to check with one its hiding-places and realizes which two Horcruxes already disappeared. Thanks to the telepathic bond which binds it to Harry, it indicates accidentally to this one where to find the Horcruxe last: in Poudlard.

; The Battle of Poudlard

While arriving at Pre-with-Bacon, the trio is saved sentinels mangemorts by the tenant of the Wild boar Head. Harry realizes that it is its blue glance which he saw in his fragment of mirror and identifies it thanks to the fragment of mirror, under the portrait of Ariana: the tenant is not other than Abelforth Dumbledore, the brother of Albus Dumbledore. It is him which sent Dobby to save them. Abelforth then opens a secrete way towards Poudlard, by which Neville Londubat comes to join them. The passage leads to the Salle on Request, where Neville, with the head of the Armée with Dumbledore reconstituted, was cut off. He explains to them why the school changed whole with the whole, that the black magic is now taught and the frequently tortured recalcitrant pupils. Neville points out all their dispersed friends, former students and even the Order of the Phoenix, which unloads the ones after the others by the same passage. Harry with the intuition that the Horcruxe last is the lost diadem of Rowena Serdaigle. Guided by Luna, it slips by in the common room of Serdaigle to test more. There, they fall on the Carrow, of the mangemorts to the service of Voldemort, but manage to neutralize them. Harry feels that Voldemort is in way towards the castle and prevents Minerva McGonagall, which, itself, warns the other directors of houses thanks to three Patronus. The pupils who are not major are evacuated by Mr. Rusard and Mrs. Pomfresh, like all the house Serpentard, whereas the major pupils are authorized to remain to fight if they wish it, under the crook of McGonagall, in the Big room. Voldemort arrives and launches its mangemorts, like two giants, with the attack of the castle.

During this time, Harry leaves to research the diadem, which is lost since centuries. It crosses Nick Quasi-Without-Head which says to him that the Gray Lady, the Phantom of Serdaigle is with the other end of the room. Then engages a race-continuation in the corridors of the castle. When finally it agrees to stop, this one teaches him that it is not other than the girl of Rowena Serdaigle, with which in its time it had stolen the object before fleeing in Albania and hiding it there in the hollow shaft of a forest. Harry carries out whereas Voldemort hid certainly the diadem on the way of the office of Dumbledore the evening when it came to ask for a station of teacher, and remembers suddenly that the day when it had hidden itself his book of potions (the book of the prince of blood Miss) in the Room on request, it had marked the hiding-place with a hurdy-gurdy tiara. It was the diadem.

On its side, Ron had the brilliant idea to penetrate with Hermione in the room of the secrecies in order to take there hooks still envenimé of the Basil (cf Harry Potter and the room of the secrecies where Harry destroys a horcruxe (the newspaper of Tom Jedusor) thanks to the hook.) with which Hermione could destroy the cut of Poufsouffle. It is only and single time that Ron arrives at speaking Fourchelang (by testing immiter Harry). When it takes the initiative to go to put at the shelter the elves of house, Hermione is thrown on him and embraces it. Then the trio goes to the Salle on Request, where it finds Drago Malefoy, Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle. Crabbe uses a fate of extremely powerful fire, the Feudeymon (or Fiendfyre, in English), which sets fire to the contents of the room. Harry and its friends manage to escape on two brushes, recovering the diadem and saving Malefoy and Goyle. Crabbe does not manage to escape and is killed by its own fire, which also destroys the diadem. Indeed, as Hermione explains it, Feudeymon is one of the substances which destroy Horcruxes. It was the last object transformed into Horcruxe; there remains nothing any more but the snake of Voldemort, Nagini.

After having had another vision through the eyes of Voldemort, Harry leads his/her friends to the Howling Hut. There, they attend dead Severus Rogue, killed by Nagini on order of Voldemort. Indeed, Voldemort discovered that Dumbledore was sole owner of the Rod of Elder tree. After having profaned its tomb to find it, but noting that the capacity of the rod does not belong to him, he thinks that it should be acquired by killing his last owner. Rogue having killed Dumbledore, it thinks that he is the heir to the Rod. However, even while having assassinated this one, he does not manage to control it. Rogue, right before dying, entrusts memories to Harry which collects them in a flask. In an ultimate effort, Rogue then requires of Harry to look it in the eyes and dies a few seconds later.

Of return to the castle, Harry sees in the Big room the bodies of Fred Weasley, Remus Lupin, Nymphadora Tonks and Colin Creevey. Cut down by their deaths and pressed by the one hour ultimatum that Voldemort launched to him, it moves towards the office of Dumbledore to use Pensine. He discovers whereas Rogue was side of Dumbledore for a long time, moved by its love of always for Lily Evans, the mother of Harry. Rogue and Lily knew themselves since childhood. But at the end of their schooling with Poudlard, Rogue had followed the way of Mangemorts and Lily had been diverted of him. Having realized that prophecy that it had delivered to Voldemort aimed at the son of Lily, it had offered its services to Dumbledore to protect it. Following the assassination of Lily, Rogue had promised to protect Harry constantly, in the name of its love for it and to repurchase itself. Harry also learns that it is Dumbledore which had required of Rogue to kill it. It was indeed condemned to die quickly because of the evil spell of the ring which had burned the hand to him (cf volume 6). Rogue would be shown thus more convincing at Voldemort, and could continue to infiltrate the rows of Mangemorts and to be appointed Directeur of Poudlard, to protect the school and its pupils. Dumbledore had as entrusted to Rogue as Voldemort accidentally transformed Harry into Horcruxe, which explains the visions of Harry and its capacity with speaking Fourchelang. Voldemort cannot be overcome as long as Harry is alive. Dumbledore had even asked Rogue to be arranged so that the Order had the idea to use polynectar during the transfer of Harry. It was him also which had sent Patronus in the shape of hind, the same one as that of Lily, and which had guided Harry to the sword of Gryffondor.

Shaken but resigned vis-a-vis its destiny, Harry moves towards the prohibited forest, where Voldemort awaits it surrounded by its Mangemorts. While leaving the castle, it meets Neville and the formless one that the Nagini snake must be killed at all costs.

Carrying out that its nearest death corresponds to “the end” described in the enigma of Sharp of gold which Dumbledore left him, Harry carries it to its mouth and murmurs: “I am about to die”. The Sharp one of gold opens to reveal the stone of Resurrection. Harry then uses the stone to find the spirits of his/her parents, of his godfather, Sirius Black, and of Rémus Lupin, which follow it and remain at its sides, supporting it and protecting it from the army from Détraqueur S which wanders in the forest, while it approaches Voldemort, hidden under its cape of invisibility.

Arrived at Voldemort, Harry drops the stone and arranges its cape revealing its presence. Loan to die without defending oneself nor to move, it makes it possible Voldemort of him to launch the magic spell of Avada Kedavra. It is found then in what seems to be the station (vacuum and white) of King' S Cross in London. In this place, Harry finds Albus Dumbledore, which explains why by using the blood of Harry to recreate its body, Voldemort transferred itself part of the charm of protection of Lily in him. Consequently, as long as this charm is present in the body of Voldemort, as long as Voldemort exists, Harry cannot die. He also explains to him why he is worthy to have the Relics of dead because it wishes them with a noble and courageous aim (contrary to itself, which had found them, but, with share the Rod of Elder tree, not deserved). The true Master of Death is that which accepts it and agrees the idea to die. Harry has the choice between “letting death come” or continue to live and stop Voldemort. It chooses the life.

In the forest, Voldemort was projected in the air by Avada Kedavra which it launched in Harry. Being wary, it sends Narcissa Malefoy to check that Harry died. Detecting that this one is in life, it makes sure that Drago goes well before lying to Voldemort on the death of Harry, its only goal being to find her son. On the orders of Voldemort, Hagrid carries Harry (which is made pass for dead) in Poudlard like trophy. Neville Londubat makes bravely vis-a-vis Voldemort, and refuses to join it. Like punishment, Voldemort forces it to carry Choixpeau and ignites it. At this time, of the reinforcements arrive: a rumor with far lets think that the country was raised against the new mode, and that hundreds of wizard and witch precipitate with the castle to take part in the battle, other magicians assembled by Charlie Weasley and Horace Slughorn, the Centaure S, the Sombral S, Buck Hippogriffe and the Elves of House directed by Kreattur come to join professors de Poudlard, with the members of the Order like to the students remained to fight. By letting Voldemort kill it in the forest, Harry protected its close relations like had made his mother for him.

Voldemort again tries to kill it but like explains Harry to him, the Rod of Elder tree does not belong to him and its capacity is not with him, although it killed Rogue. Since Rogue killed Dumbledore only on the orders of this last, it forever be Master of the rod. It is Drago Malefoy which, having disarmed Dumbledore in top of the tower of astronomy, was the Master.
