Harold Elliot Varmus

Harold Elliot Varmus (born the December 18th 1939) is an American scientist, prize winner of the Nobel Prize of medicine in 1989. The Nobel Prize was attibué to him (with J. Michael Bishop) for the discovery of the cellular origin of the oncogenes rétroviraux.

Since January 2000, he is president of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center with New York. Of 1993 with 2000, it was of the director of the National Institutes off Health . Before 1993, he was professor with the the University of California to San Francisco.
