Hardricourt

Hardricourt is a common French department of the Yvelines, in the area Île-de-France, located on Right Bank of the the Seine, to 15 km in the east of Mantes-the-Pretty.

The name of Hardricourt would derive from Halidrich , name of a Germanic character of origin.

Its inhabitants is called the Hardricourtois .

Geography

The commune is bordering on Meulan in the east, the Mézy-on-Seine in the west and Gaillon-on-Montcient in limit of the Val-d'Oise in north. In the south, it is separated from the Mureaux by the Seine (however the island separating the Seine in two arms at this place is attached to the commune of Meulan).

The commune is also sprinkled by the Montcient, small affluent of Right Bank of the Seine which takes its source in the French Vexin.

Hardricourt is served by the railway line Paris-Saint-Lazare - Mantes-the-Pretty via Conflans-Holy-Honorine (Gare of Meulan - Hardricourt).

History

The history of Hardricourt is dependant since the origin on that of Meulan. The first grubbings are allotted to the monks of the Saint-Nicaise priory of Meulan.

Construction of the railway line and the station of Meulan-Hardricourt in 1892.

Charles Barry establishes a chocolate factory in 1842 (currently Cacao Barry).

Jean-Bedel Bokassa, ex-emperor of Central Africa, deposed in 1979, was assigned with residence of 1983 to 1986 in the castle of Hardricourt.

Inheritance

  • Saint-Germain-of-Paris Church: built in XIIe century, bell-tower with octagonal arrow out of stone, flanked of four pyramidions with florets.
  • Castle of the Turrets: in fact a middle-class house, built at the XIXe century with the site of the old castle of Hardricourt. The park of the castle should be open to the public after its installation by the municipality.
