Harbor office of Divided into volumes São

The harbor office of São Tomé (also known under the name of harbor office of Paraíba C Sul ) was one of the fifteen harbor office S hereditary into which the Brésil at the time colonial was initially divided. It was created in 1536 and was given to Pero de Góis.

It had as a limit the current municipalities of Cachoeiro de Itapemirim (in the current State of Espírito Santo) and Macaé (in the State of Rio de Janeiro).

Its owner founded a colony and launched out in the culture of the Canne to sugar, but its activity was quickly threatened by the hostile populations autochtones. Its territory remained almost with the abandonment until in 1619, when the harbor office was returned to the Portuguese crown then integrated in the Capitainerie of Rio de Janeiro.
