Haravilliers is located on the plate of the Vexin, and occupies the south-eastern side of the highest Butte-témoin of Île-de-France. The commune thus holds on its territory the culminating point of the area: 217 meters (top of the solid mass of the Hillocks of Rosne). It also has the characteristic in this area mainly made up of villages grouped to be made up of nine hamlets.
The commune is bordering on Berville, Arronville, Theuville, Bréançon, Heaulme and Neuilly-in-Vexin in the department of the Val-d'Oise; Chavençon and Neuville-Bosc in the department close to the Oise.
History
The name of Haravilliers comes from Germanic the Harad and bottom Latin villare , firm.
The place is occupied as of the Préhistoire, as the discovery of many flints cut and polished stones attests it on the territory of the commune. Two sites of habitat and a workshop of potter of the Gallo-Roman time were also discovered. The dimension of the church indicates the importance of the parish to the Moyen-âge; the place names Haradvilerio in 1099. The population is distributed in many hamlets, and the situation poses problem under the Ancien Mode, because of the distance of the parishioners, and especially for the collection of the royal sums of money. A stop of the Parliament of Paris dating of August 17th 1739 décrête thus the separation of several hamlets of the principal parish (Theuville, Ruel, Quoniam, Sausette and Drumal), hamlets which will again be gathered only in 1790 with the creation of the Commune, except for Theuville which will become an independent commune.
