Haratin
Haratin is the name given to the black inhabitants of the oases of the North-West of Africa. It is a exonyme, which contains negative connotations. It is used in the south of the Morocco, with the the Western Sahara, in Mauritania, with the Senegal, in Algérie and with the Mali. Certains Haratin can be descendants of the Bafours, black agro-pastoral people which lived in the area before the turning into a desert of the the Sahara (from - 2000) and the arrival of the Berbères, others are the descendants of slaves originating in the south of Western Africa (Sudan).
The origin of the name is unknown, it can be Arab or Berber.
