Harar area

The Harar or Regional state of the people harar is one of nine ethnic divisions ( kililoch ) of the Ethiopia. Of a surface of 311 km ², its chief town is the town of Harar.

The Exchange Statistical Agency off Ethiopia (Agency of the Statistics of Ethiopia) estimated its population at 196.000 hab. in 2005, including 62,2% the urban ones. Its population density is of 629,72 hab. /km ².

The ethnicities present are the Oromos (52,3%), the Amharas (32,6%), Harar (7,1%) and the Guragé (3,2%). The Harari is the official language of this State. 60,3% of the population are Moslem, 38,2% orthodoxe Ethiopic, 0,9% Protestants and 0,55% catholics.

The Agency of Statisque estimated that it was there 31.730 heads of cattle in 2005 what represents less than 0,1% of the Ethiopian livestock.
