Haran (slightly different Hebraic orthography: חרן , often transcribed Charan ) is a biblical place, where Abraham would have remained at the time of its great tour since Ur towards the Promised land. According to the Genesis, Abram (then called Abraham) lived in Haran during nearly 5 years before continuing towards Canaan. The town of Harran in the south of current the Turkey close to the border with the Syria could correspond to it well, but one discusses to know if it would not be closer to Ur.
