Harald Ier (towards 854 - 931), called Beautiful hair ( Hårfagre ), was the first king (872 - 931) of all the Norway
Succeeding died of his/her father Halfdan the black Gudrœdsson, whereas it is only ten years old, with sovereignty on several small dispersed enough kingdoms, which had come in the hands from his/her father by the conquest and the heritage and were located especially in the south-east of Norway.
The history wants that the scorn of the girl of a nearby king made him make the wish not cut or comb its hair until becoming the only king of Norway, which took ten years to him; on what it changed the epithet “head of shock” or “dishevelled” for that under which it was then known.
In 866 it began a series of conquests on the many tiny kingdoms which composed Norway then. Between 872 and 885 (the divergent opinion), after a great victory with Hafrsfjörd close to Stavanger, it was king of the totality of the country.
Its reign was however threatened by dangers come from outside because many its opponents had found refuge not only in Iceland, very right discovery, but also in the archipelagoes of the the Orkneys, the Shetland, Hébrides and Féroé but even in Normandy, Scotland and Ireland. Of these winter quarters, they sailed to badger Norway as well as the unit with Northern Europe. Their number was increased by the enemies of the interior dissatisfied with the will of Harald to increase the taxation of their grounds. Later it was obliged to make a forwarding towards the west to take the control of the Orkneys in order to oblige the Vikings who were there to leave towards the Iceland.
The last part of its reign was disturbed by the fights between his/her many sons. It gave them strongholds to be managed but this arrangement did not put fine at their quarrels: they continued during the following reign. When it was done old, it transmitted the supreme capacity to his son preferred Eric “Chops bloody”, of which it wanted to make his successor. With its death it had had eight wives and twenty-three children. Twelve of those became kings. He is the grandfather of Harald II of Norway.
