The company Hapag-Lloyd AG is a subsidiary company of the group TUI. It gathers and the logistics haulage companies of the group. Its head office is with Hamburg.
Hapag-Lloyd fue created in 1970 of the fusion of two maritime companies: the Hamburg-Amerikanische Packetfahrt-Actien-Gesellschaft (HAPAG) and the Norddeutscher Lord. The two firms of origin, created respectively in 1847 and 1857, had a tradition centenary in the maritime field.
Today Hapag-Lloyd gathers the maritime subsidiary companies and Logistique S of group TUI.
In 2005 group TUI acquires for 1,7 Billion Euro the Canadian company CP Ships.
History
- 1847 Creation of Hamburg-Amerikanische Packetfahrt-Actien-Gesellschaft (HAPAG), by Adolf Godefroy
- 1857 Creation of Norddeutsche Lord , by Hermann Henrich Maier
- 1905 Hapag acquires the travel agency Carl Stangen in Berlin and re-elects it in Reisebüro der Hamburg-Amerika Linie
- 1970 HAPAG and Norddeutscher Lord amalgamates to form the group Hapag-Lloyd AG. The travel agencies become Hapag-Lloyd Reisebüro
- 1972 Création of the airline company Hapag-Lloyd Flug
- 1998 the company Preussag acquires companies Hapag-Lloyd AG and TUI to form later group TUI AG
- 2005 Acquisition of CP Ships. TUI becomes an important maritime company of Porte-conteneurs (4th world rank).

Hapag-Lloyd there exist the following firms:

- Hapagfly (airline company), before April 2005 it bore the name of Hapag-Lloyd Flug
- Hapag-Lloyd Express (HLX) (airline company at low prices)
They do not make any more party of the Hapag-Lloyd company. The two first became subsidiary companies of the group TUI. When HLX has, it was directly created by TUI in 2002 as a Compagnie low-cost by using a name already known on the market in order to have a greater notoriety.
