History
This commune is known for facts related to the Révolte of the Red Bonnets in 1675.
Many vestiges are the witnesses on the Commune of the Bronze Age marked by the civilization of the tumulus (3500 to 1800 before J, C.) and also of the Romans who have arrived into 54 before J.C in a zone celtized for 500 years. When to the Life century of our era the flood of Breton immigrants crosses the English Channel to settle in Armorique, of many Gallo-Romans tribes live and work in these regions. But there remain zones of forests and moor to be cleared.
It is between the " Montagne" , roads and rivers of the CAMFROUT and the DOUFFINE which the first Christian community will settle. The borough built at the top of a high hill (102 m) seems to have been a center of clearing. With the entour villages with the consonances: coat, killi, notch (wood as old man and Breton means) are as many witnesses of the forest cover. The splendid forest of the CRANOU is still the witness: royal possession it was then managed by the Marine of XVllle at the end of the XIXe century. This community will set up a place of worship dedicated to St Pierre: it will be HANVEC.
E. VALERIE in her book " Breton communes and parishes of Armorique" we says: " All this area included/understood only one primitive parish (8000 ha). HANVEC included, in addition to its truces RUMENGOL and LANVOY, the southern part of the HÔPITAL-CAMFROUT, ROSNOËN and its truce the FAOU, QUIMERC' H and its truce LOGONNA-QUIMERC' H, finally LOPEREC". An immense parish burst in communes since the Revolution.
In XIe century the cartulaire of LANDEVENNEC draws up the inventory of the possessions of the abbey. The parish appears under the name of plebs HAMUC (plebs = parish). In its dictionary of the Communes and Truces of Finistere, B. TANGUY precise: Derived in CPU (alternative of ok today ek), Breton old man ham, in Breton means haff, hanff today hanv " été". Toponym HANVEC appears, associated with Breton in addition the kroaz " croix" in croixhanvec (Morbihan), with the Breton old man lein " hauteur" in leinhanvec, village of Plounéour-Carry out. Exact Breton equivalent of Latin aestivalis place of été" … It could be in relation to the practice of the estivage, i.e. to make remain the herds, the summer in the pastures of mountain.
The most famous lords who will mark of their print HANVEC will reside at the manor of KERLIVER. They were used the Dukes as Brittany, the Kings of France, the Empire. Their currency " better than beau" for the knight of KERLIVER in XVe century " Mar Because Doué" for Kerlec' H in XVIe century, " rather to break that plier" for the Baron of EDGE in XVIle century. With the revolution; the family of QUELEN of free KEROHAN KERLIVER to take refuge in JERSEY. The field was confiscated by the revolutionary government. In 1803, J.L. QUÉLEN returned to the manor, it became Maire of HANVEC. It is in 1850 following financial problems that OF QUÉLEN were constrained to sell to brothers DESHAIES OF MONTIGNY. These Officers of Empire yielded in their will the manor to the Commune.
Dependant on the history of the Manor, the vault of LANVOY is today in restoration. Its bell-tower remains the only witness of a history reduced to silence by the negligence of the men. Old possession of the abbey of LANDÉVENNEC to which it was given by king GRADLON, LANVOY is remained attached to this one until the Revolution. Noted LAN. VOE in XIe century, the toponym is a compound formed with the Breton old man lann " ermitage" and a name of saint, undoubtedly MOE. Saint OYEN owner of the vault and éponyme of Lopoyen " Lochboezien" - devoted place - (Dictionary of the Communes, B. TANGUY).
