Hans Magnus Enzensberger

Hans Magnus Enzensberger (November 11th 1929 with Kaufbeuren) is a Poète, writer, Traducteur and German journalist , also known under the Pseudonyme of Andreas Thalmayr , and which currently lives with Munich - Schwabing.

Biography

Wire of a postal worker, Enzensberger has three younger brothers, of which the English specialist Christian Enzensberger. It passed its childhood to Nuremberg, in 1945, it is enlisted in the Volkssturm , remains then as interprets and barman in Royal Air Force and… by making black-market. After the vat passed in 1949, it makes studies of letters (languages and philosophy) to the Université Friedrich-Alexander of Erlangen-Nuremberg, with Freiburg-in-Brisgau, Hamburg and the Sorbonne in Paris thanks to a purse of the Studienstiftung of the deutschen Volkes. It obtains its doctorate in 1955 with a thesis on Clemens Brentano. He is then journalist with the radio of Stuttgart until 1957. After a stay in the USA and Mexico, its first publication is born: it is a collection of poems the Defense of the wolves, (Verteidigung der Wölfe) . It takes part in the Gruppe 47 and receives the price Georg-Büchner in 1963. Follow a first stay in Soviet Union and a first voyage in South America in 1965.

From 65 to 75, Enzensberger publishes the review Kursbuch in the Suhrkamp editor then with the editions Kursbuch Verlag created in Berlin. It is fellow with the Center for Advanced Studies of the Université wesleyenne in the Connecticut in 1967. It remains in Cuba in 1968-69 and then works on the Spanish Anarchiste Buenaventura Durruti (its film leaves in 1971, its novel in 1972).

It remains in New York in 1974-1975 and leaves the review Kursbuch and puts at the writing of the booklet of the opera Cubana on a music of Hans Werner Henze. The first of its part the shipwreck of Titanic takes place in 1980. After having adapted the Misanthropist of Molière, it writes to the Philanthropist played for the first time in 1984.

He wrote with great success of the books for youth: Der Zahlenteufel (1997) and Wo warst of the Robert? (1998).

Enzensberger directs since 1985 the collection Die Andere Bibliothek (the Other library) . This collection publishes each month a work chosen by Enzensberger - less juqu' at the end of 2005, date of its resignation and published in a very neat way, the first 999 specimens being intended to the bibliophiles.

Many prices rewarded the inexhaustible activity theatrical, poetic and romantic of H.M. Enzensberger, inter alia the Heinrich-Böll price in 1985, the Price of Peace Erich-Maria Remarque in 1993, the price Heinrich Heine in 1998 and the Price of the Prince of Asturies in 2002.

Work

She is characterized by a wild glance on the company and in particular on the “mediocrity which reigns in this Republic (German)”. According to Enzensberger, they are “the colonies of surfers, the fortresses of the third age and the second home or tertiary sectors” which are prètent best with the observation of released German because “of the factory and the office”, they offers a complete panorama of their culture: “of the private clinic specialized in karate with the seminar for masochists” (quotations drawn from Mediocrity and madness (Mittelmaß und Wahn) , 1988)

In Perspective of civil war (Aussichten auf den Bürgerkrieg) (1993), it describes the human being like “the only primate to be practiced in a methodical, enthusiastic way and with large scales, the murder of its congeneric. The war is one of its principal inventions”. He sees being propagated in an unperceivable way what he names a “molecular civil war”.

“Little by little, the refuse piles up at the edge of the streets. The broken the beer syringes and bottles accumulate in the parks. Everywhere on the walls appear monotonous graffiti with the autistic message: evocation of one Me which does not exist any more… One destroys the pieces of furniture in the classes, the gardens puent the shit and the urine… it is there of tiny declarations of war which can interpret the experienced townsman. ”

One could add that it is also the only primate even the only living being which baits itself to destroy its environment. Anxious to its health and frightened by its death, an unrestrained consumption of medical care and drugs are not enough to reassure it, also takes refuge it in many drugs, prohibited and sold at the black-market, or legal - alcohol or tobacco, even in the suicide!
