Hans-Dickmann-Kolleg
The HaDiKo (“Hans-Dickmann-Kolleg”) is a residence coed with Karlsruhe (Germany) which extremely of its 874 rooms is the largest self-managed residence of Germany.
History
Hans Dickmann (1909-1957) was a professor with the technical university of Karlsruhe and, thanks to her actions for the students, had a good reputation. After its death at the request of the students the residence “Wohnheim im Parkring” was famous “Hans-Dickmann-Kolleg”. When the residence was sold at the city in 1964, the name was taken again for the new buildings of the “Klosterweg 28”. Our day we let us call commonly it HaDiKo.
Characteristics
Contrary to the majority of the residences of Karlsruhe, this one does not belong to Studentenwerk (Administration for the students), but to the association of the residence coeds of the university of Karlsruhe (Trägerverein Studentenwohnheim der Universität Karlsruhe e.V.). The residents decide only constructions or hirings, deal of the networks data processing (“HaDiNet”) and with the telephone installation (“HaDiFon”). There are rules of procedure which relate to the installation of the administration as well as Parliament of each residence, votes etc Nearly 150 residents are in the self-management of the residence and take part thanks to their engagement to make so that HaDiKo is not a residence-dormitory but a place of international cultural exchange where each student can put into practice what it studies.
