History and origin of the Hanovrien horse
The origins of the hanovrien go back to XVIIe century, with Hanover (Germany), capital of the Land of Lower Saxony. At the time, in the area, one started to seek and thus thereafter to select good saddle horses for the soldiers, for the army. These horses were to also show of elegance and refinement, in order to draw the attachments from the aristocrats.
In 1714, Georges Louis, voter of Hanover, reached the throne of king d' Angleterre, under the name of Georges Ist It imported horses of Hanover to harness them with fit with body royal.
George II, king de Grande-Bretagne and duke of Brunswick-Lunebourg, wire of George Ier, founded in 1735 the stud farm of That, located at approximately 40 kilometers of Hanover, in the Land of Lower Saxony. The selective breeding started at this time: the mares of Hanover were crossed with Holstein standards. General-purpose draft horses were then obtained, which one needed, at the time. Crossings with other Thorough-bred reduced Hanovrien nevertheless, which gave very good attachment and saddle horses, light, but rather strong and robust for the agricultural work.
The Napoleonean wars massacred the Stud farm of That: there remained about thirty standards to the Stud farm, whereas before the wars, there was more than 100. It was thus necessary to start again the breeding by crossing Hanovrien with of Mecklembourg and the thorough-bred.
In the middle of XIXème century, Hanovrien thus became a very pleasant saddle horse: much lighter with much of dynamism. And it was thus adapted less to the agricultural work. New crossing were carried out in order to obtain a powerful and solid horse again, for the farmers and work with the field.
The Second world war arrived. Majority of the races of and saddle plow horses of the old type, from which Hanovrien, suffered from it: they underwent a strong decline. The mechanization of agriculture took part, moreover, with this fall of the race. In order to preserve the race, of the crossings were then carried out between Hanovrien and several other races: Trakehner and Arab Thorough-bred.
Hanovrien then became also a very good saddle horse for the equestrian competitions of sports: it was refined, made athletic and harmonious. Its qualities first, of horse of work to the fields, were preserved: force, constancy, robustness.
Today, Hanovrien is an excellent horse of equestrian international competitions of sports, being illustrated very regularly in top of table, primarily in raising, jump of obstacles and complete contest.
