Hannut

Hannut (in Dutch Hannuit , in Walloon Haneù ) is a French-speaking city of Belgium located in Walloon region in the Province of Liege, in Hesbaye.

It counted at July 1st 2004 13.936 inhabitants (6 753 men and 7.183 women) for a surface of 86,49 km ².

The first battle of armoured tanks of the second world war proceeded on its territory (Crehen) on May 12th, 1940.

Teaching

The entity of Hannut abounds in many schools. First of all the Athenaeum Royal of Hannut and the College Holy-Cross in the center of Hannut, but also the elementary schools of Avernas, Lens-Saint Remy, Thisnes, Large-Hallet, Merdorp and Moxhe. Lastly, Hannut also has two establishment school intended for the children of special teaching: Orchises as well as the Bay-trees.

Youth movements

November 11th, 2006, Scouts and Guides of Hannut celebrated the centenary of scouting locally. It was about the only demonstration which joined together the 3 French-speaking scoutes federations, and most of this weekend. Many personalities were present, including 3 federal presidents.
