Handle (clothing)

The handle is part of a Vêtement which recovers all or part of the arm.

Certain trades employ handles of protection recovering the handles of principal clothing.

The operation of the Strait jacket is based on closed handles fixed on the chest or of long sleeves which it is possible to tie in the back of the patient to prohibit to him movements without risk to wound it.

Lengths of handles

  • short Sleeve: handle not exceeding the elbow;
  • long Sleeve: handle going down until the Wrist;
  • Handle 3/4: handle stopping in lower part of the elbow;
  • Handle 7/8: handle stopping a little with the top of the wrist;
  • Mancheron: handle very short recovering only the shoulder and revealing the biceps.

Kinds of handles

  • Handle angel: sleeve draped and opened on the top;
  • Puff sleeve: full and wrinkled handle;
  • Sleeve bat: very broad handle with the armhole and which narrows downwards;
  • Sleeve bell: handle which widens downwards;
  • flared Sleeve: sleeve widened downwards;
  • Leg-of-mutton sleeve: sleeve puffing out towards the shoulder and which narrows starting from the elbow;
  • Kimono sleeve: rectangular and full handle;
  • Sleeve pagoda: sleeve flared on the level of the wrist;
  • Raglan sleeve: handle going up to the neck;
  • Sleeve tulip: handle whose form resembles that of a tulip.
