Manuel Jose Leonardo Arce Leal was born in the town of Guatemala in 1935. Poet and playwright, he is regarded as one of the Guatemalan writers most important of second half of the 20th century.

In the years 1980, it had to give up the Guatemala for political reasons, following the threats of the mode of Romeo Lucas García. It is established in France in various cities, and finished its life with Albi, where it worked as director of an arts center. One of the rooms of the theater Athanor, National scene of Albi bears its name (" Arcé" room;). He died on September 22nd, 1985 in Albi in France.
